Unfortunately, we were unable to host a 2020 Spring tournament due to COVID-19. However, we still found other ways to raise money for a good cause!
This year, we made and sold homemade, custom earrings to raise money for two organizations working to further racial equality and justice: the Equal Justice Initiative and Color of Change. 100% of the proceeds from the earrings sales went directly to these two organizations.
The Equal Justice Initiative was founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a Black lawyer who wrote the bestselling book Just Mercy about his work challenging unjust death penalty sentences. The EJI, which is based in Montgomery, Alabama, works to end the impacts of mass incarceration on communities of color and advocate for prisoners who have received unjust sentences by providing legal representation.
Color of Change is a digital organizing group that creates campaigns to push for racial justice, to hold leaders accountable, and to advocate for more diversity and a less hostile environment for people of color in corporations and government. The organization also focuses on racial issues in criminal justice, the media, voting access, technology, and economic opportunity.
